GraphLock Earns $20,000 APUS Prize at 2017 Milken-Penn GSE Competition

Charles Town, WV, April 26, 2016American Public University System today announced that it awarded its $20,000 Venture Path prize for Innovation in Online Education to Tucson-based GraphLock as part of the 2017 Milken-Penn GSE Education Business Plan Competition (EBPC), co-sponsored by APUS for six consecutive years. The company, which also received a Voter’s Choice award of $1,000, offers an affordable scientific and graphing calculator app with a patent-pending lockdown mode.

Venture Path prize“I’m very pleased to congratulate co-founders Mallory and Josh Dyer along with Chief Product and Technology Officer VJ Kanwar for their innovative mobile and web-based application that turns a smartphone, tablet or laptop into a fully functioning scientific and graphing calculator,” said Dr. Wallace E. Boston. Dr. Boston, CEO of APUS parent American Public Education, Inc., is a Penn GSE graduate and annual EBPC judge.

The APUS award recognizes maturing, but still early-stage, start-up ventures addressing higher education. This year’s winners collectively received more than $120,000 in prize funding and eligibility to participate in the Education Design Studio Fund. The finalists presented their projects—showcasing the best and most promising new ventures in the field—to a select judging panel of industry leaders on the University of Pennsylvania campus on April 25.

Now in its eighth year, EBPC stimulates cutting-edge ideas—whether local or global, profit or non-profit, or preschool through adult learning—that serve the world’s educational needs. Launched in 2010 by the Penn Graduate School of Education in partnership with the Milken Family Foundation, EBPC is the nation’s first-ever funded education business plan competition.
