APUS Recognized for Second Consecutive Year as Top-Five Value Choice in 2017 Washington Monthly College Rankings

Charles Town, WV, August 28, 2017—American Public University System (APUS) today announced that it has again been recognized as a “Best Bang for the Buck” for 2017 by Washington Monthly Magazine in its annual college rankings. APUS ranked fifth overall out of 50 southeastern public, private and for-profit schools evaluated on student completion, debt and affordability metrics, earning the top slot in serving first-generation students and second-highest sector ranking.

“APUS takes great pride in being recognized for providing quality, affordable programs to adult learners, with but a single undergraduate tuition increase in the past 16 years,” said Dr. Karan Powell, president. “Moving forward, we encourage the inclusion of criteria that more effectively reflect their unique attendance and persistence traits, to help ensure the best possible learning outcomes.”

For more than 25 years, APUS has offered quality, affordable academic programs to military and civilian students in collaborative, fully-online classrooms led by faculty scholar-practitioners who are leaders in their fields. The university is a multiple recipient of awards for excellence, effective practices, quality and leadership in online and digital education. In addition, 38 APUS students and alumni have been finalists in the prestigious Presidential Management Fellowship program since 2012.
